Obituary

Aneta Mariet Ziegler, 99, of Walnut, passed away January 14, 2022, at Artis Senior Living, Elmhurst.  She was born December 19, 1922, near Walnut, to Albert and Clara (Bauer) Guither. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Illinois and taught at various schools, including Galena, to be close to her future husband from Wisconsin.  She married Lloyd Ziegler in 1949 at Red Oak Church, near Walnut.

Aneta enjoyed being a farmwife and always had a large garden.  For years she invited others in the community to come out and share her produce.  She went back to teaching and taught first grade at Ohio Grade School for 26 years.  Upon retirement, she was a substitute teacher.  She enjoyed taking her students on field trips and often visited neighboring farms.  She put the education of her students first and took great pride in the progress they made learning to read.

Aneta was active in Kasbeer Church, enjoyed playing the piano, wrote poetry and music, was an enthusiastic reader of educational literature and kept up on current events.  She was a committed Christian and believed in Christ as her Redeemer and Savior.  After Lloyd's death, Aneta moved to Elmhurst to be closer to her younger grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Deanna Ziegler, Elk Grove Village, Bryan (Sandy) Ziegler, Ottumwa, Iowa, Rowen (Annetta) Ziegler, LaHarpe, Gavin Ziegler, Walnut, and Twyla (Bill) Spoolstra, Elmhurst, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Ellen (Harry) Dovenspike, Irene (William) Thompson, and a dear daughter-in-law, Sheri.  Burial will be at the Red Oak Cemetery with a private graveside service.
