Bessie M. Brown

Bessie Marie Brown, 98 of Tampico, died Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Bessie was born on June 20, 1924 in Alba Township in Henry County, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Marie (Miller) Wilson, Sr. She married Arden H. Brown on December 29, 1941 in Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1989. Bessie enjoyed listening to Big Band Music, sports on the radio, playing golf, dancing, cooking, and crocheting. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family. She was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Hooppole.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Gloria) Brown of Silvis; Steve (Ruth) Brown of Harmon; one daughter, Sally (Nim) Scanlan of Rock Falls; five grandchildren, Christine (Jeff) Campitelli, Mike (Kimberly) Larson, Mark Larson (Monica Ponce), Joe (Annette) Larson, and Nolan (Ashley) Scanlan; great grandchildren, Jacob (Vanessa), Oden, Evelyn, Riley, Ingrid, Maeve, Ethan, and Cole; one great, great grandchild, Atticus.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Arthur “Bud” Wilson and Mervyn Wilson; and three grandsons, Nim Scanlan, Justin Larson, and James Larson.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Funeral service will follow at 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will conclude at Yorktown Cemetery in Yorktown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tampico Ambulance Service or Zion United Methodist Church in Hooppole.
