Obituary
David L. Tompkins, age 89, of Rock Falls, died Friday, April 14, 2023 at his home.
David was born September 23, 1933 in Sterling the son of Charles and Fern (Bruns) Tompkins. He married Shirley Franks on April 12, 1952 in Rock Falls. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2014. David owned and operated Tompkins Aluminum Foundry for many years. He was very hard-working and had a charming personality. David loved being on the river, boating and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by three sons, Dale D. (Rhonda) Tompkins of Tampico, Paul A. (Penny) Tompkins of Tampico, and David C. Tompkins of Rock Falls; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; his brother-in-law, Larry Burger of Tampico; and three special friends, Dale Clevenger of Sterling, Bonnie Seilhymer of Prophetstown, and Jimmy Divers of Tampico.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one son, John Tompkins; one brother, Donald Tompkins; and three sisters, Kay Walter, Patricia Miller, and Karen Burger.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from Noon - 2:00 PM at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. The funeral will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dalmus Meeks officiating. Burial will be at Tampico Memorial Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
