Delbert Swanson Obituary

WALNUT – Delbert R. Swanson, 96 of Walnut died Friday February 18, 2022 at Heritage Health in Walnut.

He was born on May 15, 1925 in Spring Valley, the son of Gershom and Jane (Condie) Swanson. Delbert served in the US Army during World War II in the Philippines. He married Phyllis A. Johnson on May 28, 1960 in Walnut. She died January 19, 1983. He later married Rosemary (Jones) Craig on July 25, 1989 in Davenport. She died March 14, 2018. Delbert was employed by the US Postal Service in Walnut as a rural carrier for over 33 years. He was a member of the Walnut United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with his granddaughter.

Survivors include his sons: Brian (Kristen) Swanson of Plainfield and Philip Swanson of Walnut; step son Richard (Mary) Craig; step daughter Carla Baker; sister Delores Wilt of Bloomington; granddaughter Haley Swanson of Plainfield; step granddaughter Leslie (Alex) Schlue; and 5 step great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday February 23, 2022 from 4-7 PM at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. The funeral will follow on Thursday at 10 AM in the funeral home with the Reverend David Poust officiating. Burial will conclude at Walnut Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in his memory to the Walnut Fire and Rescue Unit.
