TAMPICO – Douglas V. Broers, age 73, passed away peacefully Friday, July 24, 2026 at his home with his family by his side.

                Doug was born on December 23, 1952 in Princeton the son of Verden and Verna Lee (Ward) Broers. He grew up with his 3 sisters on his family’s farm southwest of Walnut.  Doug had chickens and ponies to keep him busy. His family spent time going to parades and horse shows. He grew up with his grandparents and cousins. Doug was a member of the Greenville Go Getters.  He showed pigs, sheep, steers and horses and was active in FFA. Doug was also active in sports, having played baseball, track and field as well as football for the Walnut Blue Raiders. He graduated from Walnut High School where he met high school sweetheart Linda Thompson.  They were married on July 14, 1973 at the Bache Memorial Chapel in Van Orin. That was the beginning of their life as a family on the farm. In 1979 they started milking Wichled Ayrshire cows.  He also grain farmed, but mostly enjoyed time in the skid loader, the combine and showing dairy. They raise their 3 children and 7 grandchildren on the farm where they learned what hard work was.

                He is survived by his wife Linda of 53 years in Tampico; 2 daughters, Jeannie (Jim Kepner) Broers and Kay Broers; 1 son David Broers all of Walnut; 6 grandchildren, Dalton Kepner, Darla Kepner of Walnut, Dana Primo and Darcy Kepner of Manlius, Brianna Broers from Wisconsin and MaKanna from Texas; 2 sisters, Deanna (Dan) Hoge and Sharon (Tracy Kresbach) Broers; brother-in-law, Randy Walters.

                He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Janet Walters; grandson, Bailey Broers.

                Visitation will be from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM Monday, July 27, 2026 at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM with Chaplain Darin Jones officiating.  Burial will follow at the Walnut Cemetery.

                In lieu of flowers memorial has been established to St. Judes Hospital and Bureau County FFA.
