Duane L. Christensen

Duane L. Christensen, age 86, of Walnut, died Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Allure of Walnut.

          Duane was born July 12, 1938 in Princeton, the son of Herbert, Sr. and Viola (Krebs) Christensen.  He was a 1957 graduate of Walnut High School and later married Janet Durham on April 6, 1958 at the First Christian Church in Walnut.  Duane served in the National Guard Reserves for over six years and was employed as a carpenter at V and C Construction in Walnut. After retirement, he was a bus driver for Bureau Valley.  Duane was an active member of the First Christian Church in Walnut where he served as an Elder, Deacon, and Trustee.  He was also a member of the Walnut American Legion, Walnut Village Board, and the Sterling Family Moose.  He enjoyed polka dancing and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

          His family members are his wife of 66 years, Janet Christensen of Walnut; one son, Ken (Tina) Christensen of Walnut; one daughter, Connie (Bill) Spears of Tampico; one brother, Randall Christensen of Walnut; four grandchildren, Nicole (Thad) Lartz, Bradly (Brittany) Spears, Brett Christensen, and Shawn (Savanna) Christensen; four great grandchildren, Brianne Spears, Bentley Spears, Alexandra Lartz, and Mabel Christensen; and several nieces and nephews.

          He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Herbert (Gloria) Christensen, Jr. and one grandson, Brett Christensen.

          A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at the First Christian Church in Walnut.  A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM at the church with Pastor Brian Wilson officiating.

          In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the First Christian Church in Walnut and the Walnut Rescue Unit.
