Walnut, IL Eileen L. Dufelmeier Burkey, age 91, formerly of Walnut, passed away at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth, Illinois on February 19, 2016. She was born on August 26, 1924 in Arenzville, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and LaVerna Hierman Dufelmeier. She graduated from Illinois College in Jacksonville, and taught in Milledgeville, Beardstown, and Walnut. She married Willard Kessler Burkey on November 17, 1957, and they lived and farmed in rural Walnut. He preceded her in death on May 24, 2007. Mrs. Burkey is survived by her daughter, Ann Burkey Brezinski, son-in-law Dr. Thomas Brezinski, granddaughter, Katharine Brezinski, sister-in-law Shirley Dufelmeier, and nieces Betty Schmoldt, Barbara Davenport, and Jane McKean. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Raymond Dufelmeier and Melvin Dufelmeier, sister Sarah Dufelmeier, nephew David Dufelmeier, and sister-in-law Josie Dufelmeier. A visitation will be held at the Walnut United Methodist Church on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from noon to 2:00, with the funeral service at the church at 2 p.m. on Sunday with the Rev. Mark Harkness pastor officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Illinois College, or Prairieview Lutheran Home.
