Elin Dumney Obituary

A lifelong artist, Elin B. Dumney, was born April 30, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois.  She was raised in Orland Park, the daughter of Gene and Luella (Anderson) Bates. She graduated from Carl Sandburg High School in 1958, and completed her baccalaureate at Southern Illinois University where she was part of the Delta Zeta sorority.

On June 23, 1962, she married her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) K. Dumney at the Methodist church in Orland Park.  In 1975, she and Bill purchased a farm outside of Manlius, IL and lived there for 38 years while farming and raising their son, Matt.  During this time, Elin taught English at several high schools in the area before teaching at MHS and Bureau Valley.

After retirement, they moved to Mesa, Arizona where she enjoyed traveling abroad, honoring her artistic skills through art classes in many different forms and styles, and watched her Chicago Cubs spring training.  Bill and Elin celebrated 51 years of marriage, before his death on December 13, 2013.  Spaghetti will never taste the same.

Elin leaves behind her son, Matt (Barbie) Dumney of Mesa, AZ, her grandchildren, Amanda (Blair) Kearfott of Illinois, Matthew William of Arizona, and Derek Emmett John of Arizona, one brother, John (Katherine) Bates of Arizona, and one sister, Linda (David) Laun of Kentucky. One sister-in-law, Sheila Weisenfarth, of Illinois. She also leaves behind, her King Charles Cavalier, Cambryce Secret Code (CiCi).
