Elmer Von Holten, age 98, of Walnut, died Sunday, April 13, 2025 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
Elmer was born October 12, 1926 in Deer Grove, IL, the son of Carl L. and Anna Maude Beulah (Williford) Von Holten. He served in the US Army and later married Carol Hansen on June 13, 1954 in Walnut. She preceded him in death on January 6, 1998. Elmer worked as a farmer in the area for many years and was also a bus driver and electrician. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and was a jack of all trades. As a faithful church goer, he was an active member of New Life Lutheran Church in Sterling.
He is survived by his two daughters, Jeannette (Jerry) Fairbanks and Carolyn (Mike) Maynard both of Walnut; his son, Ron (Barbara) Von Holten of Walnut; one sister, Lois Fulfs of Sterling; one brother, Merle (Juanita) Von Holten of Walnut; five grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one grandson, Brett Thompson; two sisters, Minnie Toben and Arlene Dietz; five brothers, William, Ray, Edward, Lester, and Roland Von Holten.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 from 9:00 – 10:45 AM at New Life Lutheran Church in Sterling. The funeral will follow at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Drew Williams and Pastor Phil Gronbach co-officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Cemetery at 2:30 PM.
