James P. Crain

WALNUT – James P. Crain, age 82, died Monday January 13, 2025 at St. Mary Hospital in Kankakee.

            James was born May 22, 1942 in St. Elmo the son of Wilfred and Goldie (Mullins) Underwood.  He married Barbara Valenti on July 31, 2004 in Walnut.  She passed on February 12, 2023.  James was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, as well as NASCAR and enjoyed playing Pinochle.  He had a love for nature, enjoyed taking daily walks to Lou’s Café for coffee. James loved to camp and enjoyed yearly RV trips with wife Barb to Ludington State Park, Michigan.  He loved to cook and liked to play guitar.

            He is survived by his step-son, Ronald (Anna Triplet) Valenti of Naperville.

            He was preceded in death by his parents.

            Cremation rites have been accorded.  Graveside services with military honors will be held 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 5, 2025 with Pastor Nathan Richey officiating at Walnut cemetery.  Arrangements were completed by the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.
