James Hanrahan, 83, of Tampico, died on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Allure of Prophetstown.
He was born on January 16, 1940 in Sterling, the son of James J. and Lois M. (Johnson) Hanrahan. He married Beverly Plautz on October 16, 1961 in Rock Falls. James was a farmer in Deer Grove and Elburn. He later went on to be a truck driver for many years. He was a member of the Tampico Lions Club. He will be remembered fondly for his unique humor, big smile, and for never missing his grandchildren’s events. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years; one daughter, Brenda (Steve) Zigler of Tampico; three sons, Tim (Debbie) Hanrahan of Dixon, Trent Hanrahan of Lyndon, Travis (Ellen) Hanrahan of Prophetstown; one sister, Judy (Jerry) Young of Rochelle; two brothers, Byron (Donna) Hanrahan of Tampa, Michael (Marlyn) Hanrahan of Winter Park, FL; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Patricia Hanrahan.
A visitation will take place from 11AM-12PM on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Garland Funeral Home of Tampico. Funeral services will follow the visitation at the funeral home and take place at 12PM with Pastor Chelsey Weech, officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery of Prophetstown.
Memorials have been established to the Alzheimer’s Research Association and to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
