Janet I. Christensen

Janet I. Christensen, age 89, of Walnut, died Monday, March 9, 2026 at Allure of Walnut.

          Janet was born November 22, 1936 in Greenville Township, IL, the daughter of Glenn and Esther (Anderson) Durham.  She graduated from Walnut High School and Peoria School of Business.  Janet married Duane Christensen on April 6, 1958 at the First Christian Church in Walnut.  He preceded her in death on July 20, 2024.  She was employed at Peerless Level and Tool (Empire Level) and was a member of the First Christian Church in Walnut where she served as a Deaconess and was Treasurer of the Women’s Club.  She was a member of the Sterling Family Moose, served on the Village Board, and enjoyed polka dances every weekend, large family dinners, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She always cared for Duane and others first.

          She is survived by her son, Ken (Tina) Christensen of Walnut; her daughter, Connie (Bill) Spears of Tampico; three grandchildren, Shawn (Savanna) Christensen, Nicole (Thad) Lartz, and Bradly (Brittany) Spears; four great grandchildren, Brianne Spears, Bentley Spears, Alexandra Lartz, and Mabel Christensen; step brothers and step sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

          She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years; her parents; step-mom, Virginia Hassler; and one grandson, Brett Christensen.

          A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at the First Christian Church in Walnut.  A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM with Pastor Brian Wilson officiating.

          In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the First Christian Church in Walnut.
