Joyce C. Sobottka, age 90 of Walnut, formerly of Deer Grove, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
Joyce was born on July 10, 1927 in Maiden Rock, Wis., the daughter of Charles and Laura (Carpenter) Baggie. She married Dale H. Sobottka on May 6, 1950 in Ellsworth, Wis. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2015. Joyce was a long-time member of the Tampico United Methodist Church. She served as an election board Judge for over 40 years. Joyce enjoyed tending to her flower and tomato gardens and she loved her cats.
Survivors include two sons, Henry "Hank" (Violet) Sobottka of Rock Falls, Ill. and Michael (Ronna) Sobottka of Walnut, Ill.; two daughters, Nancy McNee of Portage, Mich. and Vera (John) Noe of Moline, Ill.; six grandchildren, Steven Martindale, Sara Sobottka, Adam (Stacy Dykstra) Sobottka, Samantha (Christopher) Bulens, Nickolaus Sobottka and Amanda Sobottka; two great grandchildren, Haleigh and Aaron and special niece: Beverly Rootes of Flagstaff, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Harvey Baggie and son-in-law, Dick McNee.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the Tampico United Methodist Church. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the church with Pastor Leanne Keate officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tampico United Methodist Church or Heritage Health in Walnut.
