WALNUT - Leona Minks, age 89, died at home, Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Leona was born on July 30, 1928 in Joliet the daughter of Denver L. and Edith M. (Mitchell) Fowler. She married Carl E. Minks on March 12, 1965 in Elgin. He died on February 19, 2005. Leona was a homemaker and was known to make the best gravy ever. She loved her family and enjoyed talking with them on the phone. Leona was a devout Christian, an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved her dog Misty. Survivors include three daughters, Violet (Robert) Martin of Fenton, Mich., Sue (Jim) Boyd of Lisle and Sandie (Larry) Parker of Elon, N.C.; two sons, Robert Summers of Springfield, Mo. and Carl (Danette) Minks of Walnut; nine grandchildren, Melissa, Russell, Samantha, Kenny, Bobby, Leanna, Nick, Mandy and Emma; eleven great grandkids; numerous other kids that knew her as "Grandma Sunshine". She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joey; three brothers; one sisters. Graveside services for family and friends at Van Orin Cemetery with Reverend Eldon Cook of Walnut Community Bible Church officiating will be announced at a later date.
