WALNUT – Louis E. Vickrey, Sr., age 90, died Tuesday May 14, 2024 at Allure of Walnut.
Louis was born on January 14, 1934 in Steelville, MO the son of Wilbur and Ruth (Creek) Vickrey. He married Euryth Von Holten on August 15, 1954 in Rock Falls. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2024. Louie was employed with several area contractors and almost 45 years with GBH Way Homes in Walnut. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and a former member of the Happy Hookers Fish Club. Louie was a past member and former Chief of the Walnut Fire Department. He also served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and member of Walnut American Legion Post #179. Louie was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Ohio.
Survivors include three daughters, Rhonda (Lonny) Peach of Walnut, Renee Hartz of Sheffield and Rita (Scott) Nation of Gays; one son, Lou Vickrey, Jr. of Walnut; eight grandchildren, Melissa, Jake, Molly, Stella, Ruthie, Bill, Kathleen and Danny; thirteen great grandchildren, Bradyn, Mia, Kenzie, Kelsey, Mary Kate, Jace, Shae, Josie, Sophie, Liam, Malachi, Eliana and Kennedy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two son-in-laws, Art Hartz and William Moderau; one sister, Wilda Gafford.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday May 17, 2024 at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM May 18, 2024 at the First Lutheran Church in Ohio. Burial with Military rites will follow at Walnut Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
