Marcella H. Mattingly, 101 and 11 months, of Walnut, died on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Allure of Walnut. Marcella was born March 9, 1922, in Greenville Township, the daughter of Orlie and Ida (Vickery) Kolp. She married Martin Spalding Mattingly on September 21, 1938, in Ohio. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1995. Marcella was a bowling fanatic and enjoyed bowling with the Farm Girls Club for many years. She was active with the Walnut Celebration in the early years and made buttons for the event. Marcella enjoyed the outdoors, working in her flower garden, crocheting, and attending family sporting events over the years. Most of all, she loved her family.
Survivors include three children, Lola Cary, of Walnut, Robert (Bonnie) Mattingly, of Deer Grove, and Kelli (Robin) Hewitt, of Manlius; 13 grandchildren, Lori (Robert) Fordham, of Sterling, Terri (Bryan Edens) Mecagni, of Granville, Shelli (John) Hammich, of Lincolntown, NC, Matthew (Shannon) Mattingly, Manlius, Shad VanWaes, Gilbert, AZ, Traci Van Waes, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, David (Jennifer) Mattingly, of Walnut, Suzanne (Jesse) Zeller, of Mackinaw, Kristi (Larry Turner) Dysart, of Mark, Stephanie (Mike) Murphy, of Princeville, Danielle (Jeremy) Stout, of Kewanee, and Taylor (Tyler) Watson, of Raiford, FL; 21 great grandchildren and soon to be 22; as well as 17 great-great grandchildren and soon to be 18.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Geraldine Dysart; one son, James Mattingly; two brothers, Laverne and Lowell Kolp; two sisters, Marjorie Carey, and Lois Rettke; one grandson, Mark Mattingly; and one grandson-in-law, Vern Mecagni.
Visitation will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Funeral service will follow at 11:00am, with Pastor Bill Haas officiating. Burial will conclude at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Princeton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vitas Hospice of Peru, Freedom House of Princeton, or First Christian Church of Walnut.
