PRINCETON – Mark Mattingly was born February 23, 1962, of Deer Grove, IL, son of Robert and Bonnie (Hardy) Mattingly. He passed away August 2, 2023 at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford.
He grew up on his parents’ farm, fishing and trapping by the Green River. He hunted with his dad and when he was 16 years old, he got his first deer, and every year thereafter, both of them looked forward to the quiet time in the woods hunting together.
Mark graduated from Walnut High School in 1980 and soon became a talented drywaller, carpenter, and able to fix anything mechanical if he set his mind to it. After returning from a time living in Colorado, he was employed at Walnut Custom Homes, in Walnut, for over 37 years before becoming ill.
He had two children, Robert (Deanna) Mattingly, of Princeton, and Elysia (Jeff) Vance, of West Salem, WI.
Later in life he met Emily (Suzanne) Williams and helped raise four bonus sons, Tyler, Jarod, Jacob, and Peyton, all of Princeton. He has seven grandchildren, Olivia, Dominick, Wesley, Ana, Sophia, Hayden, Tessa, and two more on the way.
Survivors include his parents, Bonnie and Robert, his sister, Lori (Robert) Fordham, of Sterling; niece, Jami (John) Fritz, of Sterling; and nephew, Josh Eggleston, of Eldridge, IA.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00am-12:00pm on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Memorial service will follow at 12:00pm. Private interment will be at Walnut Cemetery.
