Marva Broers Obituary

Marva Lou (“Lou”) Broers, age 78, of Walnut, IL, died Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Heritage Manor in Walnut.

Lou was born on June 25, 1943 in Princeton, IL, the daughter of Marvin and Gayle (Whitver) Broers.  She attended the rural Advance School near Deer Grove, IL.  She lived on the family farm near Deer Grove, IL, until 1997 and she and her mom moved to their final home in Walnut, IL, that same year.  She loved living on the farm and kept an amazing garden that she took care of each year.  She was a kind and caring Aunt to her many nieces and nephews and was a loving caretaker to mom.  She enjoyed getting involved in bingo at the Walnut Senior Center and attending social gatherings at the Royal Neighbors.  From the many chartered bus trips with her mom, family summer and winter trips to Wisconsin and flying trips across the United States, she enjoyed traveling and seeing new places.  She had a special way with people and for those who knew her, she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sister, Nancy Hansen of Walnut, IL; her brother, Charles (Patty) Broers of Rochester, IL; five nephews and nieces, Matt (Kari) Hansen, Sarah (John) Flanagan, Jill (Brett) Clark, Ryan (Tara) Oester, and Susan (Len) Ejma; and eight great nephews and nieces, Cody Hansen, Carly Hansen, Jackson Clark, Rowan Clark, Conor Flanagan, Jack Flanagan, Maggie Ejma and Zoe Ejma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Sue Ann; and one brother-in-law, George Hansen.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 10:00 – 11:30 AM at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.  The funeral will follow at 11:30 AM at the funeral home with Pastor David Poust of the Walnut United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will be at Walnut Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the Walnut Senior Citizen’s Center, 132 S. Main St., Walnut, IL, 61376 and to the Illinois Association of the Deaf, P.O. Box 565, Jacksonville, IL, 62650, https://iadeaf.org.
