Mary Louise Bass, age 81, of Princeton, formerly of Walnut, died Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at
OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, IL.
Mary was born May 1, 1943 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Edwin and Gwen Wilson. She was a
graduate of Walnut High School and attended Western Illinois University. She was married to the
late Gary Roush, and later married Wallace Bass on August 16, 1975 in Walnut. He preceded her in
death on March 30, 2012. Mary was a member of the Walnut United Methodist Church for many
years. More recently, she was a member of the Princeton First United Methodist Church. Mary was
devoted to her family. She loved plants and flowers, and she was a true animal lover. She thoroughly
enjoyed showing her dogs, especially Caspian.
She is survived by her daughter, Sara (Jason) Hildebrand; two sons, Glenn (Patricia) Bass and John
(Suzanne) Bass; five grandchildren, Christian Prieman, Maddie Hildebrand, Bryce Hildebrand, Joel
(Kathryn) Bass, Julie (Matt) Ransom; two great-grandchildren, Henry and Silas Ransom; and special
family members, Donna Harris and her children, Kelly Harris, Kari (Dave) Van de Walle and family,
Kim (Charlie) Cowherd and family, and Beverly Jones and her children, Cory Jones and Carmen (Eric)
Balota and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her daughter, Colleen Prieman; her infant
son, Gary Roush Jr.; and her sister, Linda Frazier.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Garland
Funeral Home in Walnut. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Michael Hickok
of Princeton First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at the Walnut Cemetery.
Afterwards, please join the family for a gathering at The Shed Tap N Grill in Walnut.
