Mary Jane Scanlan, 86 of Tampico, died Tuesday October 10, 2023 at Rock River Hospice & Home.
She was born on March 26, 1937 in Neponset, the daughter of William D. and Dorothy V. (Taylor) Bumphrey and raised by her uncle and aunt, Nim and Molly Gosney. Mary attended Tampico schools and married Norden W. Scanlan on January 21, 1956 in Clinton, IA. He died October 3, 2022. Mary was co-owner with her late husband in the family business, Eikenberry Sheet Metal Works in Sterling. She was a member of the former St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown until they closed and later joined Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. Mary enjoyed cross stitch, embroidery, working crosswords. She was a member of the D.A.R.
She is survived by her five children, Nim (Sally) Scanlan of Rock Falls, Jeffrey (Terri) Scanlan of Sterling, Shari (Randy) Bennett of Prophetstown, Kristi (Dan) Wiederin of Tampico and Kevin Scanlan of Tampico; her sister Kathryn Haller of Seymour, MO; ten grandchildren, Nolan (Ashley) Scanlan, Travis (Leah) Scanlan, Leslie (Ryan) Arquilla, Laura (Matthew) Wheeler, Heather Bennett, Brooke Bennett, Joshua (Morgan) Wiederin, Evan (Katelynn) Scanlan, Riley Scanlan and Caden Scanlan; and twelve great grandchildren, Oden, Evelyn, Bryce, Brant, Peninnah, Oren, Noelle, Adalyn, Nora, Alexis, Noah and Kyleigh.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Gerald, John and William; three sisters: Alice Cornstubble, Doris Bryan and Margaret Lansiedel; grandson Nim Scanlan; daughter in law Donna Scanlan.
Visitation will be held on Friday October 13, 2023 from 9-11 AM at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. The funeral will follow at 11 AM. Burial will conclude at Tampico Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in her memory to Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
