Maxine Piper Obituary

Maxine J. Piper, age 88, of Silvis, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 1, 2025.

Maxine was born November 20, 1936 at home in Arlington, IL, the daughter of Henry and Katherine (McDonald) Schmitz.  She married Marco Pizzamiglio.  He preceded her in death.  She later married Thomas Piper on January 20, 1965.

Maxine lived her life with the joy of cooking and baking.  She created Poorboy Catering with her husband, Tom, and daughter, Leslie.  After 20 years of catering, she retired and worked in the bakery at HyVee in Bettendorf.  She enjoyed her cooking shows and cookbooks to the end and still cooked as she could until the week before she passed.  Her family finds comfort to know she is no longer in constant pain.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Piper of Silvis; one daughter, Leslie Piper of Silvis; two sons, Marco (Piper) Pizzamiglio of Princeton and Ronald Piper of Manlius; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful companion, Maggie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; two sons, Michael Piper and Tommy Pizzamiglio (in infancy); one daughter, Mary Kay (Piper) Johnson; and two brothers, Henry and Roger Schmitz.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Walnut Community Bible Church.  The memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Eldon Cook officiating.  A luncheon will be served after the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
