Patrick Lee Broeren, 84, of Walnut, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
He was born on July 21, 1940, in Manlius, Illinois, the son of Elmer and Matilda (Cesafsky) Broeren. Pat was one of eight siblings and grew up surrounded by a strong, close-knit family. On September 30, 1961, he married Sharon Lee Hoffman at St. John's Catholic Church in Walnut. Together they shared 62 years of marriage before Sharon’s passing in December 2023.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Pat was known for his unwavering work ethic and commitment to those he loved. He spent his life working as both a carpenter and a farmer, taking pride in the work he did and the life he built for his family. Even in his spare time, Pat kept busy with woodworking, restoring antique tractors, and enjoying annual fishing trips up north with his family.
He and Sharon were proud to be involved in their community, particularly during Walnut Days, where they helped organize the Antique Tractor Show and joined family and friends in celebrating local traditions.
Pat was a natural teacher and fixer—always willing to share his stories, lend a hand, or show someone how to repair what was broken. He passed down not just knowledge, but values of patience, humility, and generosity. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter, Pam (Glen) Turner; his son, Tom (Kamie) Broeren; and his grandchildren: Jessica (Mark) Morris, Rebecca (Ben) Shepherd, Alec Broeren (Danee Miskimen), and Amelia (Layton) Garringer. He was a proud great-grandfather to Aidan Morris, Christopher Morris, Lincoln Shepherd, Mia Morris, Arya Shepherd, Oaklynn Garringer, Hunter Garringer, and Jack Broeren.
He is also survived by his siblings: Theodora “Teddy” Gallentine, Marge Schmit, Kay Pingel, Mary Ellen Gruber, and Jim (Linda) Broeren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Sharon; his brothers Don and Russell Broeren; his son-in-law, Jeff Payne; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Per Pat’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Arrangements were completed by the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.
