Robert G. Brandau

Robert G. Brandau, 87, of Walnut, died on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Allure of Walnut. Robert was born September 19, 1936, in Tampico, the son of Fred and Gladys (Stidd) Brandau. He married Barbara Byers on June 23, 1957, at First Lutheran Church in Ohio, where they were members. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2023. Robert worked at their family-owned grocery store, B and B Grocery in Ohio, for 35 years. Robert enjoyed traveling together with Barbara, fishing, and supporting his grandchildren’s many activities.

Survivors include two sons, James (Diane) Brandau, of Ohio, and Michael (Debora) Brandau, of East Moline; two sisters, Marilyn Drayton, of Walnut, and Delores Jackson, of Bushnell; one brother, Stanley (Virginia) Brandau, of Mendota; five granddaughters, Michelle, April, Katie, Emilie, and Stefani; eleven great grandchildren; and six great-great grandsons.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; two brothers, Richard and Ronald Brandau; one sister, Dorthea Ganshow; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and one great-great grandchild.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00am-12:00pm on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Ohio. Memorial service will follow at 12:00pm, with Reverend Jeff Whalen and Reverend Lori Whalen officiating. Interment will be held at Union Cemetery at a later date.
