Robert J. Gugerty

Robert J. Gugerty Sr., 77, of Tinley Park died Saturday, May 20, 2017, at his home.

Bob was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Princeton, the son of Bernard E. and Mary Charlotte (Johnson) Gugerty.

He attended high school in Ohio, Ill., and received his Bachelor of Arts from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve. In his early career, he worked for the Chicago Tribune, He continued his rewarding media sales career in New York for many years before he retired as a successful real estate professional in the Chicago area in 2010.

Bob was a loyal friend and loved his family very much. He was an avid sports fan; he especially loved the Chicago White Sox. He was a curious learner and a great cook. He loved to have a good time with friends, enjoyed a good story, told the best jokes and was dedicated to his grandkids.

He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer (Brian) Goodrich of Napa, Calif.; one son, Robert (Jill) Gugerty Jr. of Campbell, Calif.; five grandchildren, Sarah, Carson, Jaden, Mary Charlotte and Laura Rose; one sister, Anne (Bill) Huber of Laguna Beach, Calif.; one brother, Thomas (Kay) Gugerty of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother-in-law, Dean Mills of Aurora, Color.; and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia (Dean) Mills of Aurora, Colo.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A time of sharing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at the Immaculate Conception Church of Ohio followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Father Thomas Shaw, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chicago White Sox Foundation.
