May 13, 1930 ~ December 5, 2023 (age 93) 93 Years Old
Robert A. Powers, 93 of Ohio, died Tuesday December 5, 2023 at OSF St. Clare Medical Center in Princeton.
He was born on May 13, 1930 in Ohio the son of John Patrick and Margaret Gertrude (Mead) Powers and was a graduate of Ohio High School where he was the Senior Class Salutatorian. Bob married the former Verna Lowe on June 17, 1967 at St. Patrick Church, Dixon. He had worked at Wayside Press in Mendota and also had farmed. Bob loved dogs and taking rides in the country with his dog “Sox” He loved watching animal programs on TV, especially Dr. Pol and National Geographic on TV. Bob enjoyed visiting with friends, family and neighbors on his front porch when they would stop by to see him. He was a big White Sox baseball fan. He had served as past fire chief for Ohio and as a past volunteer fireman. Bob was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his daughter Dolores “Lorrie” Crowder of Ohio; his brother Charles Powers of Oak Lawn; nephews and nieces: Mike and Lisa Powers of Westmont, Dave and Kelly Golding of Glenview, Jim and Michelle Hart of Westmont, Joey Powers of Sebring, FL, and other family; special friends Donna Hansen, Steve “Sam” Forristall, who were his personal "chauffeurs;"Reka Albrecht, who came to read the Bible to him; and Pat and Johnny Fahs, who visited him often.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers: John and Francis Powers; his son Harry Michael Crowder in 1972.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 12, 2023 from 10:30 – 11:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ohio. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30AM with the Reverend Thomas Shaw officiating. Burial will conclude at St. Mary Cemetery, Ohio. Arrangements entrusted to Garland Funeral Home, Walnut.
Memorials may be made to Gateway, Friends of Strays in Princeton; Immaculate Conception Church; or Freedom House in Princeton.
