Ronald Wolf Obituary

Ronald E. Wolf

Ronald E. Wolf, age 77, of Walnut, died Sunday November 21, 2021, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Ron was born January 30, 1944 in Chicago, the son of Edwin and Ethel (Kunde) Wolf.  He graduated from Walnut High School in 1962 and then served in the US Army Reserves.  On July 25, 1965 Ron married Cheryl Sabin at Messiah Lutheran Church in Sterling, IL.  Together, they lived and farmed in the Walnut area over their 56 years of marriage.  Ron loved to farm and enjoyed showing pigs, raising cattle, and collecting antique tractors.  He was a partner of Green River Grain and was the Greenville Township Drainage Commissioner for over 50 years.  He loved music and playing the piano and liked to travel and had many special vacations with his wife and family, as well as annual fishing trips and visits to the Farm Machinery Show with the guys.  He had his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying over his crops to check on them.

Ron had an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ that was present in everything that he did, and he shared his beliefs with many.  He was proud to have served as an Elder and Church Council member at both Messiah and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he had been a founding member of the church in Walnut.  His faith was often expressed in the many poems he created over the years and in the book he wrote and published about his adoption, “My Chance To Give”.  His greatest passion was always his family, and he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Wolf of Walnut; his daughter, Treva (Kevin) Kennedy of Walnut; his son, Ed (Autumn) Wolf of Walnut; six grandchildren, Tyler (Courtney) Kennedy, Trevin (Shannon) Kennedy, Tiana Kennedy, Tristan Lafferty, Ayden Lafferty, and Maxen Wolf: and two great grandchildren, Grant Kennedy and Emerson Kennedy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother in infancy, Roger Walter Wolf (stillborn on August 11, 1945).

Visitation will be Friday November 26, 2021 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut and on Saturday, November 27, 2021 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church in Sterling.  The funeral will follow at 10:00 AM on Saturday with Pastor Chad Bolosan officiating.  Burial with military honors will be at Walnut Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to Messiah Lutheran Church.
