Roy Alvin Haney, age 86 died April 12, 2022 in the comforts of his own home surrounded by family.
Roy was born June 29, 1935 in Roosevelt, Kiowa County, Oklahoma. He was the 6th and youngest child born to Buster and Goldie (Murphy) Haney. He grew up farming alongside his father and brothers in the Texas panhandle area. He graduated from Friona High School in Friona, Texas. He was drafted into the Army in 1958 and served as a Cryptographer in Korea. He later was reactivated on active duty in the fall of 1961 at Ft. Sill, OK., in support of the Berlin Crisis. He married Mary Lou Cole on April 24, 1960 in Tampico, IL and farmed south of Tampico until his retirement. He was a member of the Tampico United Methodist Church. He served on the Tampico School board for many years and was a member of Tampico American Legion Post 574, Royal Neighbors of America and the Tampico Historical Society. During retirement he enjoyed feeding and watching birds and gardening. He was a very patriotic person. God and his country were important to him.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou, of 62 years, his daughter Carol Schultz of Tampico, 2 sons Paul (Cindy) Haney of Tampico and Douglas Haney of Lawton, OK; four grandchildren, Ryan (Dana) Haney of Oswego, IL, Samantha Haney (Eian Aldridge) of Davenport, IA, Carter Haney of Tampico, Hallie Haney of Blackfoot, ID, and his sister Doris Dorsett of CA.
He is preceded in death by infant son Thomas Earl Haney, His parents, two brothers, Leonard Lavon Haney and Thurman Gail Haney; two Sisters; Zola Jackson and Marianne Jack.
Visitation will be held on Friday April 15, 2022 from 9:30 – 11 AM at the Tampico United Methodist Church. The funeral will follow at 11 AM with the Reverend LeAnn Keate. Burial will conclude with military honors at Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by Garland Funeral Home, Tampico.
