Ruth Sylvia Thompson, 90 of Tampico, died Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford.
Ruth was born on September 30, 1931 in Cambridge, IL, the daughter of Myrlin and Louise (Simpson) Countryman. She married Jack D. Thompson on December 13, 1953 in Hooppole, IL. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2003. Ruth was a registered nurse and worked as a nurse until becoming a full time farm wife. She worked right alongside of her husband on the farm and continued doing the farm books on the computer until her death. She was a true matriarch who centered her life around her family and always made the most out of what they had. Ruth was an excellent cook and wonderful baker. She was active in her community, and loved playing dominos on Thursday nights. She was an active member of the Tampico United Methodist Church, where she played the piano and organ until she was 85. She was also a member of the Tampico Historical Society, the Royal Neighbors and president of the Martha Circle at church. Ruth had a love for music, an interest in genealogy, was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening. She loved traveling with her family to new places and to visit relatives. Ruth was proud to have just celebrated her 90th birthday. She will always be remembered for her kindness and love for others.
Survivors include, two daughters, Pamela (Lary) Pfeiffer of Moline, IL and Beth (Frank) Stella of Palatine, IL; one son, Duane Thompson of Tampico, IL; two grandchildren, Nichole (Chad) Versluis and Renee (Adam) Hull; four great grandchildren, Patrick and Andrew Versluis and Lillian and Mason Hull; two brothers, Conrad (Martha) Countryman of Prophetstown and David (Shelley) Countryman of St. Charles, IL; and one brother in law, Robert Thompson of Sterling, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her mother, father, and step mother, Alice.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Tampico United Methodist Church in Tampico, IL. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at the church with Reverend Leanne Keate officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown, IL. Memorials may be made to the Tampico United Methodist Church.
