Ruth Wangelin Obituary

Ruth Ann Wangelin, age 84, of Walnut, died Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Allure of Walnut.

          Ruth was born February 18, 1941 in Mendota, IL, the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Küng) Vincent.  She graduated from Mendota High School in 1959 and married Richard Wangelin on June 3, 1961 at Red Oak United Methodist Church of Walnut.  He preceded her in death on January 20, 1998.  Ruth was an agricultural specialist and domestic engineer.  She was a member of Red Oak United Methodist Church, was the secretary for Dixon Petunia City Quilters, and was a board member for Fairfield Township #1.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing.

          She is survived by her daughter, Roxanne (Kevin) Kuhlemier of Rock Falls; two sons, Ronald Wangelin of LaSalle and Rodney (Susan Squires) Wangelin of Walnut; three sisters, Margaret McMenus of St. Charles, Judy (Ed) DeSpain of Paw Paw, and Barbara (Delbert) McCord of Paw Paw; one brother, Clarence “Morrie” Vincent of Walnut; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

          She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Robert Wangelin; one sister, Violet Fox; and one brother, Vernon Vincent.

          A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.  The funeral will follow at 7:00 PM with Pastor Eldon Cook officiating.

          Memorials have been established to the Walnut Fire Department, Red Oak United Methodist Church, and Rock River Hospice and Home.
