Sarah A. "Sally" Quagliano Obituary

Sarah A. “Sally” Quagliano, 85, originally of Manlius, died peacefully on November 25, 2022, at Heritage Health of Walnut. Sally was born on April 9, 1937 in Princeton, the daughter of Francis and Mary Sue (Buxton) Dabler. She married Alvy R. Roush on November 24, 1955, in Sheffield. He preceded her in death. Sally wed Joseph Quagliano on June 30, 1992, in Las Vegas, NV. He also preceded her in death on October 14, 2019.

She is survived by her children, Pam (Mark) Horwitz of Tiskilwa, Deborah Roush (Peter Callahan) of Princeton, and Karen Roush of Sacramento, CA; Martin (Lori) Roush of Manlius, and Joseph (Donna) Roush of Olympia, WA; Kari (Alan) Harris of New Brighton, MN and Kevin (Erika) Quagliano of Farmington, MN; one sister, Patricia (John) Bystry of Princeton; sisters-in-law, Connie Dabler of Tucson, AZ; Theresa Kapka of Niles, IL;  and Judy Quagliano of Kewanee; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Joe; infant son, Randall Roush, and one brother, Jerry Dabler.

She will be remembered for her tireless energy and deep Catholic faith; a giving heart and her loving acceptance and patience for all.  She was active in her community as a hairdresser and local small businesswoman. As owner of Sally’s Shoppe (Manlius) she served her many area customers for 20 years, worked as Director and teacher at the Kewanee School of Beauty, followed by a long career as manager of the Luxor Hotel/Casino Beauty Salon in Las Vegas until her retirement in 2007. She was active in her profession for many years at the state level, serving on the Illinois Cosmetology Association’s Hair Fashion Committee. She was an accomplished seamstress and would sew well into the night for her children’s special occasions, draperies for the house, a new evening gown or a winter coat.

Sally was an enthusiastic participant in her faith, serving as a Eucharistic Minister for many years for Guardian Angel Cathedral, Las Vegas and St. Louis Catholic Church, Princeton. With her recent move to Walnut, she rejoined St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Walnut.  Her faith was the foundation for her giving spirit, known for always offering a helping hand to family, friends and strangers.

She genuinely appreciated the simplest of gestures, recognizing the gifts that could be found in everyday living.  She loved the out-of-doors and in youth was an avid golfer, often enjoying the peace found on the course at dawn. In retirement, she quietly and persistently tended her ornamental garden daily in the hot Las Vegas sun.  As we reflect on Sally’s life, first and foremost, she was a remarkable parent, fearlessly and selflessly supporting all her children. She loved to travel and never missed an opportunity to fly around the country to enjoy a grandchild’s birthday, a graduation or special occasion. Yearning for home and family, she and Joe returned to live in Manlius in 2015 and in recent years she most enjoyed the beautiful rolling landscape of the Illinois river valleys, the green of the woodlands, fields and pastures.

Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am with visitation on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Walnut. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am, with Reverend Thomas Shaw officiating, lunch immediately following at the church and concluding with burial at 2:30 pm at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Kewanee.
