Shirley Mae (Hippen) Magnuson

Shirley Mae Magnuson, age 88 died Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Allure of Walnut.

Shirley was born on April 19, 1935 in Dixon, Illinois the daughter of Eilert and Trientje (Oelrichs) Hippen. She married Dale Magnuson on July 19, 1953 in Sterling. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2020. Shirley was a former member of First Christian Church in Walnut. 

 Shirley was an artist and founding member of the Rock River Valley Art Association. She taught art for her friends in the association for many years.

Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Lou Porter of Wheaton; one son, Curtis Magnuson of Walnut; three brothers, Dave (Wanda) Hippen of Sterling, Bud Hippen of Sterling and Jack (Veronica) Hippen of Dixon; two grand children and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters Ann, Florence and Doris.  

 Graveside services will be held 12:30 PM Wednesday, January 3, 2023 in Walnut Cemetery with Pastor William Haas officiating. Arrangements were completed by Garland Funeral Home, Walnut.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Sauk Valley College Visual Arts Department.
