Steven J. Chriest, 68 of Tampico, died Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at his home.
Steven was born on June 13, 1954 in Sterling, the son of Charles W. and Eula (Bruder) Chriest. He graduated Tampico High School in 1972. He did body work on cars, working for a family owned business, Chriest Garage, for 34 years, until it closed in 2006 and then at Slim and Hanks until retirement. Steven served on the Tampico Fire Department and was a past road commissioner for the Village of Tampico. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed hot rods and vintage cars. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Chicago Bears. His grandchildren were very important to him and he loved time spent with them.
Survivors include, his mother, Eula Chriest of Tampico; his children, Josh Parrott of Prophetstown, Lacey Chriest of Walnut, and Tyler (Miranda) Chriest of Tampico; eight grandchildren, Katyn Parrott, Karlie Parrott, Jett Parrott, Hayze Parrott, McKinley Canady, Ainsley Peterson, Chase Chriest, and Josie Chriest; two sisters, Ida Staelens of Sterling and Anna (Randy) Wetzell of Tampico; one brother, Timothy (Kathy) Chriest of Aurora; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Susan Mitchell; two brothers, Charles Chriest and Roger Chriest; and one brother, in infancy.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. A memorial is established in his memory.
