Theodore “Ted” Raymond Sumner, age 77 of Tampico, died Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Ted was born on September 30, 1945 in Palmyra, Nebraska, the son of Raymond and Neta (Williams) Sumner. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran and served from 1965-1968, doing two tours during the War in Vietnam. He married Sharon Berge on November 15, 1969 at the United Methodist Church in Tampico. Ted worked at Blackhawk Lanes in Sterling for the past ten years. Prior to that he had worked at RB&W, Northwestern Steel and Wire, Donaldson, and IBP (now Tyson). He enjoyed playing old video games, bowling, and doing yard work. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; his son, Chuck Sumner (Tiffany Roman) of Morrison; his grandchildren, Micah, Destiney, Trevor, Hayden, and Ryder Sumner; one great grandson, Ezra Theodore; one brother, Mark Sumner of Freemont, NE; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Neomia Geister.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Tampico. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 P.M. at the church with Reverend LeAnne Keate officiating. Burial with Military Honors will conclude at Tampico Memorial Cemetery in Tampico.
