Virgil Johnson Obituary

WALNUT – Virgil M. Johnson, age 94, died Monday, January 9, 2024 at Allure of Walnut.

            Virgil was born on September 17, 1929 in Wyanet the son of Leonard K. Anna (Olson) Johnson.  He married Carolyn Carey on September 12, 1953 in Princeton.  She preceded him in death on April 8, 2008.  Virgil was a lifelong farmer in Bureau County and former 4H Leader.  He enjoyed his computer, his tulips and having coffee at the Walnut Cafe.  Virgil was a former member of Red Oak Methodist Church and most recently attended the Walnut Community Church.

            Survivors include one daughter, Kelley Johnson; one son, Kent Johnson both of Woodridge; one sister, Doris Ann Smith of Ozark, MO; special friend, Mary Kuhnert of Walnut; several nieces and nephews.

            He was preceded in death by his parents.

            Cremation rites have been accorded. Gathering of Family & Friends from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Red Oak Church, Walnut. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Kelly McKune officiating.  Inurnment will take place in Walnut Cemetery.  Arrangements were completed by the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.
