Weldon Wilkinson Obituary

WALNUT – Weldon B. Wilkinson, age 88, died Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Rock River Hospice & Home, Sterling.

            Weldon was born on April 9, 1936 in Greenville Township, Bureau County the son of Robert M. and Birdene E. (Draper) Wilkinson.  He married Kay Brandenburg on February 22, 1957 at Fort Rucker, AL where he was serving in the United States Army.  Weldon was a Truck Driver for Consolidted Freightway.  He was a member of the New Bedford Christian Church and 66 year member of the Walnut American Legion Post. Weldon served as the Greenville Drainage Commissioner for several years, Republican Precinct Committeeman from 2002 – 2019.

            Survivors include, wife Kay of Walnut; three sons, Greg (Lori) Wilkinson of Walnut, Ron (Laurie) Wilkinson and Mark (Dawn) Wilkinson both of Normandy; six grandchildren, Christopher (Taylor) Wilkinson, Cody (Jennifer) Wilkinson, Ashley, Josh (Lia Templeman), Tyler (Mariah) Wilkinson and Brooke Wilkinson (Justin Carter);  four great grandchildren, Garrett, Connor, Parker and Oliver.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Jr.; one sister, Norma Olson.

            Cremation rites have been accorded.  Private graveside services with military rites will be held at the Walnut Cemetery with Pastor Troy Campbell officiating.  Arrangements were completed by the Garland Funeral Home, Walnut.

            In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the New Bedford Christian Church.
