William A. Richmond ,80, died December 7th 2021, with his daughter by his side, at Rock River
Hospice in Sterling IL.
Bill was born April 5th 1941 to Mable (Meek) and Howard Richmond on a farm in Tampico IL. Bill
joined the United States Air Force in 1959 as a Fabricator Machinist until 1962, when he then
joined the Air Force Reserves until 1965.
On April 19th 1969. Bill married his late wife Lois (Vary/Wolber), and her six children.
Bill worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation in Rock Falls and retired after 32 years.
This beloved man wore many hats, from being an adoring husband to his wife, to being a loving
father to his children. He was known for his patience and kindness. Bill loved woodworking and
could give anyone a run for their money in a game of cards. Bill was loved and respected by
those that knew him, and he would not miss a coffee date with his neighbors Elaine and Lane,
usually with his beloved dog Rascal in tow.
Bill is survived by his sister Jean (Chuck) Elder, his Stepchildren; Rich (Ida) Vary, Alan
(Roxanne) Vary, Steve (Renee) Vary, JoAnne (Tony) Lybarger, seven grandchildren, five great
grandchildren ( one one the way) as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, his parents, three brothers, one sister, one nephew
and one step son, Mike Vary.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 12th from 2:00-4:00PM at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Dalmus Meeks officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Tampico Memorial Cemetery, Tampico.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Rock River Hospice & Home.
