William “Bill” M. Sisler, 94, of Ohio, IL passed away on Monday January 15th, 2024 at his home in Ohio.
William was born December 5, 1929 in Princeton, IL the son of George & Anna (Neer) Sisler. He graduated from Ohio High School in 1947. After graduating Bill went on to receive his degree in Dairy Plant Operation at Iowa State College in Ames, IA in 1949. He was united in marriage on July 9, 1960 to Marlene G. Geiken at Paynes Point Lutheran Church, Chana, IL.
Bill served in the National Guard in the State of Illinois from 1948-1951. He then enlisted in the fall of 1951 in the Army, having served in Korea during the war as a Tank Commander and earned a Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze stars & a United Nations Service Medal. He was discharged from his military duty in 1954.
Bill went onto work for his Dad at Sisler’s Dairy Products learning how to run the family business. He was very involved in all aspects, making ice cream, ice & butter, also running routes and coming home to help Marlene with the bookwork even after his long day at the plant.
Bill loved to travel & visited many different places with his family & friends. In his free time he liked to drive his antique cars, boat on the Rock River and golf at Green River Country Club. Bill enjoyed watching his kids then grandchildren in their sporting events & choir concerts. He enjoyed going out to eat to many different places - especially the ones that carried Sisler’s Ice Cream or ice.
He was active in many different clubs & boards. To name a few: he was a Master Mason of the Walnut Lodge No 722 for over 70 years, he served as past Mayor of Ohio for 10 years & also served on the Ohio Volunteer Fire Dept & Lifelong member of Ohio United Methodist Church until it closed, then when on to attend First Lutheran Church in Ohio; He was a Citizen’s First State Bank board member for many years & a member of the Green River Investment Club; a member of the Rock River Restorers Antique Car Club & The Schwartz’s.
He is survived by his three children Carmen (Bob) Sissel of Princeton, Kathy (Mike) McGinley of St. Charles & Karen (James) Anderson of Ohio; one brother Ed (Judy) Sisler of DeKalb & four grandchildren Vanessa Sissel, Tieg Sisler, Lucas Sisler & Annette McGinley, two great grandchildren Audrey Thompson & Levi Ingle and several nieces/nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents George & Anna Sisler, his wife Marlene Sisler, his son Billy Sisler, his brother & sister-in-law Richard (Nancy) Sisler & brother-in-law Richard Geiken.
We would like to thank his caregivers for their many years of wonderful care & OSF Hospice for their services for the past few months.
A visitation will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Ohio from 9 to 11 am on Saturday January 20th with services to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial with military rights will be held at Ohio Union Cemetery following the service.
In honoring Bill’s memory to the community, he would prefer that donations/memorials be given to the Ohio Veterans Memorial.
